A Weekend in London: Must-See Spots and Insider Tips

London, the bustling historic capital of England is the ultimate city break destination. It has something for everyone whether it is its fantastic restaurants, iconic landmarks or historical traditions and culture.

The best place to start your London trip is to visit its popular and world-renowned, Buckingham Palace. This historical palace which has been home to England’s Kings and Queens for just under 200 years is a favourite for travellers.  I would recommend timing this to get to see the Changing of the Guard ceremony as this was one of the highlights of my trip.

For both history and art lovers, the British Museum is must-see. With millions of objects from all over the world, it really is a ‘world museum’. Access to the museum is free but you must book a ticket in advance as places are allocated on a first come first served basis on the day.

No trip to London is complete without a visit to Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. I would recommend riding the hop-on-hop-off bus tour as this has a few routes that will ensure that you get to pay a visit to all of London’s vast landmarks. Another form of transport that will be of use is the London Underground. With stops all over the city at a maximum of £9 per day per person, the underground is an easy way to navigate around the city.

For avid shoppers, London has many areas such as Oxford Street, Regent Street, and Covent Garden that have a mixed blend of high-end designer brands, but then also have alternative individual shopping areas where the products are more artsy. Below are some tips that will help you traverse around the city worry-free.

1.      Use contactless payment to tap in and out on the London Underground – no need to wait to buy tickets.

2.      Landmarks are often spaced out around the city – use public transport.

3.      Do not use taxis – Taxis often take longer than walking due to bad traffic.

4.      Dress for the weather – The weather often changes very quickly in London.

5.      Book tickets to attractions well in advance as demand for these tickets is massive, especially in the summer months.

I would definitely recommend London to other city break travellers and would rank it 3rd place on my list of cities I have travelled to.

  1. I really like different cities, and London is also one of those to be included in this list, with its beauty, history, culture and all the other things that I really like. Last year i visited there and during this tour, I search these all the things and next i have a plan to visit grand canyon deals with my best friend.
